My July Favorites – Summer Beauty Essentials 2016

Hey Guys !

Hope you’re having a great summer so far! This is the second part of my Summer Favorites, which I’ve already made a post about, so go check it out if you haven’t already. Here I’ll be focusing on my top picks for  Summer Beauty favorites. These beauty products are the ones that will save you from having your make up melt off during the day.

Travel Favorite : Burgundy Wine Route

Burgundy or Bourgogne Vineyards

However before diving into the beauty pool, I want to mention a travelling favorite for the month of July : my road trip on the Burgundy Wine Route. It was definitely the highlight of the month so watch out for the post that will be coming. France is a wonderful country with each region worth the visit be it for architecture or history, gorgeous scenery and of course let’s not forget food and WINE :)!

Now into my Summer beauty faves!

Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Waterproof

IMG_7829Who needs racoon eyes  in the summer? or any season for that matter? I have oily lids but it gets worse when the heat is on. Waterproof  mascara is a summer staple to help with heat and humidity as well as the beach and any pool parties you might attend.

My personal favorite is by Givenchy with it’s medieval torture ball looking device! I find that a lot of mascaras with a waterproof formula leave my lashes looking a little blah. They don’t seem to pack the same punch for some reason. This happens to me even when the non waterproof version works just fine such as the Dior ShowCase mascara. The waterproof version that I got during the Black Friday sale  provides no volume or length to my lashes. I guess this counts as July’s miss. The Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes reallys builds your lashes and separates them. It’s a tried and true product for me.

Erborian HD CC  Cream

IMG_8704

During the summer months, I don’t always feel like messing with a full coverage liquid foundation, such as the Estee Lauder Double Wear which is my usual favorite or the Revlon color stay as my drug store favorite and mentioned in my  2015 Beauty Favorites. With KBeauty being all the rage, I thought I would try out this Korean brand. I wasn’t disappointed.

The usual BB or CC creams I had tried before provided no coverage, and so weren’t to my liking as you can tell from my usual foundation favorites, coverage is an important part of what I need in a foundation. Of course if you are lucky enough to have perfect skin then go ahead and use a light weight foundation! I however require a little more help :).

Swatch of the CC cream, changes color when blended

This CC cream comes out in a white color, that can seem a little daunting at first, but it changes color when you start blending. It actually adapts itself to your skin tone, quite awesome! The coverage is good for a CC cream but it feels very  light on the skin. If you don’t like the feel of wearing foundation or are not used to, then try out this BB cream it might be the product you’ve been waiting for and not just for summer!

Added bonus, it’s made for HD film or photography which will be a big part of summer souvenirs. It has an SPF of 45 which is one of the highest you’ll find in beauty products.

Nars Laguna Body Illuminator

IMG_7818

Since I have a couple of weddings this summer, I thought this would be the perfect product to make my skin glow. It adds a little color as well that still looks natural and blends wonderfully into the skin. You also don’t end up looking like a disco ball as the glitter particles are finely milled and distributed evenly in the product. It catches the light beautifully and if you wait for it to dry down, it won’t stain your clothes.

A shower and voilà you’re back in your own skin. This product is great for a date night, or a pool party, you don’t have to bust it out just for weddings. I find it to be water resistant but it’s not waterproof and it’s not intended to be used in the water.

Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo eyeshadow cream

I don’t necessarily want to mess with a whole palette or a lot of eye make up when it gets really hot. A nice wash of color in a long wearing cream formula is the thing for me! You can of course layer a powder over-top for extra durability if you’re going out later and won’t have time to touch up but it’s not necessary for the most part. I’ve already raved about this drugstore gems in my Top 5 Fave Cream Eyeshadows.

Kat Von D Tatoo Liner in Trooper

The Kat Von D Tatoo liner is still my go to when I need a heavy duty, heat and humidity proof liner. This one is very reliable and will get the job done while still being so easy and fun to use with its felt tip. Don’t fix something that isn’t broken, when I find something that works for me I stick to it.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

IMG_8686 - Copie

This powder is an oldie but a goodie. It works nicely at controlling the oil and setting your make up with out giving you that cakey look. As you can see I’ve hit major pan on it! I’ve repurchased this one many many times.

I also really enjoy the fact that its plastic packing makes it very light weight and travel friendly. During the summer I love being carefree and don’t want to baby my products too much. This drugstore product is perfect for throwing in your beach bag and heading out the door!

Vichy Gel Body Moisturizer

IMG_7823

When it’s hot out and you’re not using an AfterSun lotion such as the La Roche Posay one mentioned in the part 1 post : My Summer Essentials, then a heavy moisturizer just doesn’t appeal and I gravitate more towards cooling gel type moisturizers. This body gel moisturizer by Vichy just fits the bill. It’s refreshing with a wonderful light weight scent and penetrates your skin very quickly. The fact that its a gel formula doesn’t take away from the moisturizing properties as that can sometimes happen.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 PA++

IMG_9417

My lips are sensitive and prone to peeling. I love the feel of smooth moisturized lips so I always go for really thick lip balms that actually work versus just adding a layer of grease over your skin. In the summer, you also need to protect your lips from the sun, who wants to get their lips burned! Ouch! The Elizabeth Arden Nourishing Lip Balm has a n SPF of 20 and protects against all the damaging UVA and UVB rays. It’s part of her 8 hour line which I love. It scored a spot on my top ten lip balms post for a reason !

Herbal Essences Shimmery Nights Shimmer Hair Spray

IMG_7826

If you’re going to an event or a summer/pool party, I find that adding a little sparkle to your hair is quite fun ! This might not be the best hair spray to hold your curls or updo but I just add it as a finishing touch for the glittery effect.

Benefit Porefessional primer

Primer is necessary when you need your make up to stay on and not just slide off your face. I’m not saying that I use it every day in summer, but there are some occasions when you want sweat proof make up and I swear by this product. I love that it has a dual purpose of keeping your foundation, blush, bronzer and highlight staying strong as time goes on, but also of minimizing pores. I find my pores are even more prone to being enlarged when in high heat and humidity. This primer doesn’t have a blurring effect like some of them but just fills them in and smooths out your skin texture. I also really like how it photographs. I always buy a back up (check out my Sephora VIB haul here).

Urban Decay De-slick Makeup Setting Spray

IMG_8686 - Copie (2)

Along with primer this UD Setting spray is a must have for me. It prolongs the wear of make up and takes away the powdery look to your makeup.

It works both as a refresher spray and as a long lasting  hair spray for your make up (unlike MAC Fix+ which is only a refresher spray)!

Benefit Bene Tint

IMG_8698

I mentioned this product in my May Favorites post as I got in in a Benefit Kit. It’s  a perfect travel size for summer. I love this blush tint and find I’m more in the mood to use it in the summer when I don’t want to have too much powder products on (I don’t mind in the winter). This is not a cream but a liquid that blends into your skin till you don’t feel it any more. It gives a perfectly natural looking flush. If you’re going to an event and you have combination to oily skin I would recommend to layer a powder blush over it for extra long lasting effects.

Barry M Nail Paint in Mint Green

IMG_8696

I love pastels in the summer, and how they pop against your tan. This fun mint green is just right in the summer time and easy to pair with many summer outfits. I recommend applying 2 coats for an opaque finish.

Dior in Plaza

IMG_8697

The other nail trend I love rocking in the summer are neons and brights. This bright pink neon color will just make your day that much more up lifting. I love the curved brush that Dior polishes have it makes the application so much more smoother.

Kenzo : Flower by Kenzo eau de parfum

IMG_2783

Lastly, during the summer months, switching up your perfume is must for me. I don’t like overly sweet scents. This perfume Flower by Kenzo is the right summer scent with a nice floral note but also has vanilla mixed in for added softness. It’s Kenzo’s version of a poppy fragrance that is not overpowering in the heat. The beautiful transparent bottle is also a plus. I love travelling, nature and Japan so this perfume perfectly combines my faves in a delicious luxe bottle!

    1. Thanks! Yes a had a blast in burgundy it’s not the first destination you might think of for vaca usually the beach or mountain comes to mind
      However it’s worth it !

    1. Well I guess it depends on whether or not you have oily skin and really need a setting spray and also of where you live. In France there aren’t many brands who come out with these types of spray so our options are limited. But I do love the UD one. Maybe you can just test it out for free and spray your face with a tester. Also I buy all my makeup with a discount I wait for a 20% off coupon at Sephora so it’s not such a hit if I try something and don’t like it
      Have a great weekend!
