My January Favorites – 2016

I hope everyone got off to a great start for this new year ! Here are my current favorites for the beginning of 2016.

Burt’s Bees – Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb

IMG_2626

In the winter months, chapped lips is a common occurrence, and tinted lip balm is an easy way around it. I love all of Burt’s Bees products as they are a 100% natural. This lip shimmer isn’t overly shimmery in the sense it has no glitter. It really moisturizes your lips and give it nice wash of color. The Rhubarb shade is a warmer or deeper play on a neutral and enhances your natural lip color. This lippie has a slight tingly effect without being painful, to my knowledge though it doesn’t plump your lips. The taste is slightly minty and fresh.

Bougies la Française : Candle in Thé Noir du Yunnan – Black Yunnan Tea

IMG_2146

When it’s cold and grey it’s the perfect time to curl up on the couch with a blanket and binge watch Netflix or just read a great book in front of the fireplace. If you don’t have fire place, lighting a great smelling candle is just the thing. I got this over Xmas (you can see the tree in the back ground heehee!). It smells delightfully woodsy. This is an open invitation to travel with your senses to exoctic China and it’s Yunnan province. I love tea so it’s perfect for me. I like muskier scents in the winter, whereas in summer I go for fresh and light ones. This scent will give you a big cosy hug.

Diorskin Radiant Base

IMG_2140

This time of year, our skin tends to lose its glow along with some color. My oily skin also is dryer with the colder weather. Diorskin Radiant Base is the answer to amp up your complexion and bring back the dewiness. I love it as you can hardly feel anything on your skin, and it lets your real skin peek through. I like a full to medium coverage most of the time, but I can use this as foundation with some powder to set, and while far from providing full coverage improves the overall look of your skin. It refinishes and provides lightning to your skin. It’s naturally enhanced so the effect is really nice. If you still have a couple problem areas your concealer will do the rest of the work. It also has the added bonus of having an SPF of 20. But I don’t feel you get flash back in photos. You can use any foundation on top of it but I just stick with a Diorskin Powder or a powder foundation if I feel my skin needs the extra coverage.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer in 02 Light Medium

IMG_2811

I love the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation and have featured it in my 2015 Beauty Favorites. So it comes as no surprise that I would love the Double Wear Concealer just as much. It has a pretty thin consistency without be “liquidy” which usually in my experience translates to having no coverage. This product is very pigmented and a little goes a long way. I use this mainly underneath my eyes and find it to be not drying at all. I use it to highlight between my brows a little but for the rest of the face I use a different concealer because I chose a pretty light shade. I also love the fact that it stays in place all day a feat for most products with my combination/oily skin. It claims 15 hour wear, and while I might not have tested the whole 15 hours it sure does stay on for me. It also has spf 10 which is a plus. If you haven’t tried go then I highly recommend this.

Sewing kit

As you know by now, I love traveling and having a cute little sewing kit on the go is really useful especially on longer trips where a snag in your clothes can happen quite easily. A friend who travels a lot for work gifted me this adorable kit for Xmas. The gorgeous little kit comes in a pop up box and handily keeps all your sewing essentials neat and tidy. The box will protect them in your suitcase and keep them secure.

Logona Organic Shampoo

I visited my sister for Xmas and she’s got long and pretty hair. I asked her what she was using and she gave me her organic shampoo. It is based on a key ingredient : nettles and no it won’t irritate your scalp haha! It essentially works as a clarifying shampoo and leaves your hair squeaky clean. It does foam up a bit but because it is free of any chemicals it doesn’t have a rich lather like many drugstore shampoos have. I tried it out skeptically at first I’ll tell you but I was surprised by how I really turned out to like it. It does take a little time to get used to it but it really grows on you when you see how shiny and healthy your hair gets.

Color Pop Super Shock Shadow in Cheap Date

Color Pop has been all the rage recently and over every other YouTube video. I thought I had to see what all the hype is about and ordered mine of Amazon. The packaging is really cute and simple the outer box a clean white with a bright teal interior. The Eyeshadow pan is in a round tube that you have to unscrew, personally I prefer the MAC type of single eyeshadow container. You can’t lose the lid with those. The product itself is highly pigmented and has a crazy foiled almost wet payoff. The finish is metallic. I love high shine shadows for the mobile lid when the contrast nicely with the matte shades I wear in my crease. This eyeshadow is really good for a great price. The staying power is very decent as well, though I have to wear a primer. But I wear a primer with all my eyeshadows. This has made me curious to try the other products from their line. Has anyone tried them and if so can you let me know what you think in the comments?

Sadaharu AOKI Paris – Chocolates : Bons Bons Maquillage

IMG_7528

Xmas is chocolate time, friends and family gift chocolate so much so you end up eating chocolate well into January. Well at least that’s my case J. One of the best chocolatiers in Paris is actually Japanese : Sadaharu Aoki and the specialty is Bons Bons Maquillage or Makeup Candy in French! Hello with such a name is it any wonder that this chocolate ends up in a beauty favorites post? My grandmother is Japanese so I love all Nippon things add in chocolate and make up and you just can’t go wrong ! The stylish gift boxes have neat rows of simple blocks of bright color similar to an eyeshadow palette ! They come in many flavors such as Raspberry, Valencia Orange, Yuzu, Wasabi, Green Tea and Blueberry. They are made of a delicious dark chocolate ganache in a dark chocolate shell. So if ever you’re in Paris stop by one of the boutiques or the counter in the French Department Store Galeries Lafayette. Simplicity is this chef’s goal and pursuing greatness while maintaining a simple approach is very difficult but AOKI definitely achieved this !
